English for TECSOL
English for TESOL provides
language development for those wanting to teach younger learners (ages 6
– 12). It builds confidence in the classroom by developing participants¨
English language and listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Through observation and micro-teaching you will be exposed to the
language teachers use, the theory behind teaching younger learners and
practical classroom skills.
Designed for
People who want to
improve their level of English in order to be effective in the younger
learner classroom. You may be considering a future career in teaching,
studying at a teaching college or university, or you may already be a
teacher who has English language teaching responsibilities.

(This is equivalent to IELTS 4.5, TOEFL 475 or TOEIC 560. Students are
not required to sit a formal test. Their English level will be
assessed during application.)

experience is not required.
We strongly recommend
that participants on the English for TESOL programme undertake our
on-line NetLanguages programme English for Teachers prior to the course
or as post course study.
TESOL Certificate
Leading to the Cambridge
Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), this course focuses on the knowledge
needed by all English language teachers. Participants learn about the
main areas of teaching knowledge – language, learning and teaching
theories, planning, resources, teacher language and classroom
management. The course includes micro-teaching and exam preparation for
the Cambridge TKT.

(the Australian Government) the Certificate IV in TESOL is a national
training qualification and is recognized by a number of Sydney¨s leading
universities. It is a highly practical course which introduces you to
current teaching methods, practical teaching ideas and a range of TESOL
resources. A major component of the course is teaching practice with
real students.
Designed
for
Non-native English
speakers who want to enter the English language teaching profession or
experienced teachers who want to further develop their communicative
teaching skills through the strong focus on practical teaching. You may
be a student or graduate who wants to use this qualification as part of
a postgraduate course in TESOL at a Sydney university.

is a very intensive and practical course. You need to be in good
physical and mental health. On full time courses it is strongly
recommended that you have no other commitments to work or study.

Assessment
You will teach for six
hours and be assessed on your overall performance. You will also
complete assessed written assignments. There is no final examination.

Entry criteria

A Pre-Advanced English level or above
(This is equivalent to IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 550, TOEIC 750 or CAE ^C ̄)
Previous teaching experience is not required.
A
pre-course interview will assess your potential to develop the skills
required to pass the course.
Please note: this is a VET course. If you are in visa category 1 or 2
you do not need to sit a formal language test. If you are in category 3
or 4 you will need to provide us with an IELTS test result to meet
student visas requirements.

Certificate IV in TESOL candidates who do not meet the English
level entry criteria can enroll in ^English + TESOL ̄. Candidates will
be advised on the length of English lessons required. English
lessons can be conducted at IH Sydney (Manly).

A Language
Training Institute Course
This nine-week course in
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is delivered and
assessed at Milton¨s North Sydney campus. The Milton Language Teacher
Training Course trains students in the latest English teaching techniques.
The course is designed for people without previous teaching experience who
wish to pursue English language teaching as a profession or for those who,
while having some teaching EFL experience wish to have this experience
endorsed with a qualification.

Entry

This course prepares
non-English speakers to teach English to child speakers (children aged 4
to 12) of other languages. The course includes units on; approaches to
learning & teaching, lesson & syllabus planning, teaching skills &
strategies, class management, teaching the four skills and teaching from
home. Particular attention is paid to providing trainees with a wide range
of practical teaching activities, songs and games. The course includes a
week's experience working with children in preschools.

Duration:
4 weeks, consisting of: 3 weeks in class 25 hours a week, 1 week
as teacher¨s assistant in a preschool 25 hours (approx.).

Learning Outcomes

The University of New South Wales offers a Master of Arts and a Graduate
Diploma in Applied Linguistics, which are available on campus in Sydney.
Credits are awarded on the basis of:
- ATTC English for TESOL Certificate is credited for 1 out of 4 subjects
of the Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics and 1 out of 6 subjects of
the MA in Applied Linguistics.
University of Wollongong
The University of Wollongong offers a Graduate Certificate, Graduate
Diploma and Master of Education in TESOL. All programs can be taken on
campus, or by distance education. Credits are awarded on the basis of:
- ATTC English for TESOL Certificate is credited for 1 out of 7 subjects
of the Graduate Diploma in TESOL.
University of Canberra

The University of Canberra offers a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma
and Master of Arts in TESOL. Credits are awarded on the basis of:
